It's almost mooncake month (follows ghost month), which means every hotel, restaurant, and coffee shop is selling these things. As far as I can tell, it almost seems like a fancy version of Christmas dainties.
Most places are also giving samples, so I'm trying them all. 90% of them all taste the same to me and they really don't have much flavor. The most common ingredient is white lotus paste, whatever that is. I did find one variation that tastes really good. I'm going to try to bring it home, but it needs to be refrigerated. She said I could freeze it, so I might try that with an insulated bag and maybe ask for some fridge space on the plane. That first class ticket has got to be worth something.
Here's a picture of a line of mooncake stands at one of the office towers.

ReplyDeleteAre there any filled with red bean paste? I've had those before and thought they were pretty good. I think they were the most common flavour, but maybe that's a Chinese thing
